Peatlands are considered climate protectors. As water and carbon reservoirs, they have an immense influence on the climate and the environment. Peatlands make up about three percent of the global land area, but store twice as much carbon compared to the biomass of all the world’s forests, which cover about 27 percent of the land area. Therefore, the protection and restoration of peatlands is enormously important for climate protection.
For this reason, the 29th C.A.R.M.E.N. Forum is dedicated to the topic of peatlands and shows which challenges, but also opportunities, the rewetting and management of peatlands entail. The event on 14 March 2022 will take place online from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in cooperation with the Bavarian State Research Centre for Agriculture (LfL). The web conference will be opened by Michaela Kaniber, Bavarian State Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forestry. This will be followed by three technical blocks with presentations on the opportunities for climate protection, funding opportunities and research projects as well as concepts for energy and material use. The conference fee is 60 euros (incl. VAT). Employees of Bavarian authorities and students are entitled to a reduced conference fee of 50 euros. for more information: click here
