Waste-to-Resource-Unit (W2RU)

Technical implementation of a bioreactor

The basic aim of the project is to develop an alternative product of an urban circular economy. In a modular process, food waste is to be converted into protein-rich biomass by heterotrophic microalgae. High-quality chemicals can then be extracted from this.

The aim of the project is to clarify the technical structure of a biorefinery required for this. This creates the basis for implementing the idea on a pilot basis, optimising it and starting a proof of concept in a second funding phase or through other funding. The eco-design process serves as an orientation here, in which ecological, social and economic sustainability aspects are already taken into account during the conception phase.
