Evaluation School Milk Programme

Evaluation of the EU School Programme / Programme Components School Milk in Brandenburg / Berlin

The school milk programme is an integral part of the EU school programme, which resulted from the combination of the previous EU school fruit and vegetables scheme with the EU school milk programme for the school year 2017/2018. The aim of the EU school programme is to increase the consumption of fruit, vegetables and milk by children. The daily supply of these foods to children is intended to increase acceptance and preference for these foods. Alongside the supply of these food, the children are to be helped to understand healthy eating habits, a more responsible handling of foods and organic farming. Furthermore, teaching units or excursions are implemented into the programme.

In this project, the school milk programme in the Federal State of Brandenburg and in Berlin is to be evaluated and, if necessary, improvement potential is to be shown. The focus is on the investigation and changes of the eating habits of school children and the evaluation of the knowledge gain about healthier nutrition. Furthermore, the performance and implementation of the programme in primary and nursery schools and optimisation opportunities are to be investigated. The evaluation took place for the first time in the school year 2017/2018 and is repeated annually. Children, their parents and school staff of several nursery and primary schools, which participate in the school programme as well as institutions which do not take part in the programme are to be evaluated.
