The symposium Towards New Horizons – Sustainable Solutions in Agri-Food and Biotechnology brought together over 60 scientists from all over Europe in Berlin on 10 and 11 October 2024.

Towards New Horizons in Berlin

The conference in Berlin was organised by FACCE-JPI and Green ERA-Hub. It not only provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge and research results, but also promoted networking. Researchers from various European projects involved in the sustainable development of the agricultural and food sector came into contact with each other. Prof Dr Daniel Pleissner believes that a great deal of knowledge needs to be transferred to Brandenburg.

The Scientific Director of the Institute for Food and Environmental Research e.V. (ILU) presented the activities and results of the Climaqua project. The aim of this project, which is funded by FOSC-ERA-Net and the BMEL, is to make fish farming more sustainable. By using algae as feed and utilising waste, the aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make fish farming more environmentally friendly overall. The scientists involved are also looking for a way to produce algae biomass in a climate-friendly way.

The organisers of the symposium Towards New Horizons: FACCE-JPI and ERA-Hub

FACCE-JPI is a European collaborative initiative that addresses the challenges of sustainable agriculture, food security and the impacts of climate change. Since its inception, FACCE-JPI has been working to bring together research and innovation activities from different countries to reduce the negative impacts of climate change on agriculture and promote sustainable food production systems.

The Green ERA Hub (GEH) brings together networks in the agricultural, food and biotechnology sectors, including all relevant ERA networks (Cofunds) and their predecessors, independent networks and EJPs. The GEH thus represents most of the relevant national funding organisations in Europe in the agricultural, food and biotechnology sectors.
